Whole dried Crataegus berries — small, deep red, and tart, with a fruity character and a mild tannic grip that sits somewhere between rosehip and a dried cranberry. One of the oldest hedgerow botanicals in European practice.
These are the berries, not the leaf and flower. Hawthorn is sold in both forms and they are not interchangeable — different plant parts, different chemistry, and different traditional preparations. This is whole dried fruit.
Flavor
Tart • Fruity • Mildly tannic • Deep red • Clean finish
Ingredients
Organic dried hawthorn berries (Crataegus spp.), whole. Single-ingredient. No additives or fillers. Naturally caffeine-free.
How to Brew
Hawthorn berries are dense and want a decoction rather than a steep. Use 1–2 teaspoons per 8 oz, bring to a boil, then simmer covered for 15 to 20 minutes and strain. Crushing the berries lightly before simmering extracts noticeably more.
A passive steep in a mug will give you pale, thin liquid. The finished cup should be a clear deep red.
Ways to Use
Hawthorn works well as a syrup base — simmer, strain, and sweeten with raw honey once cooled. Blends naturally with rosehips, cinnamon, orange peel, and ginger. The tartness also makes it a good counterweight in blends built around sweeter or earthier herbs.

Tart, fruity, and slightly tannic — similar to rosehip with a mild earthiness. Honey rounds out the flavor well.
Simmer 1-2 tablespoons in 2 cups of water for 15-20 minutes, then strain. Simmering (rather than steeping) extracts more flavor from the whole berries.
